Susie Herrick MFT
M.A., Counseling Psychology, Santa Clara University | B.S., Psychology, Santa Clara University
Psychotherapist and Educator
Co-founder of the Institute of Relational Intelligence
Susie was raised in a spiritual educational foundation in Palo Alto, California, where she began a life-long process of studying religious and spiritual practices as well as political and environmental activism. She came to realize that all this action—all our positive actions—arise and take hold only if we achieve the resolution of self hatred into TRUE LOVE OF SELF. The best way to activate this was to learn how to intervene in people’s lives in ways that would inspire self-esteem. In other words she sought to find ways to help individuals relate, both internally and externally.
Bringing a unique and diverse array of talents into her work with individuals and groups, Susie is a California state licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a certified Enneagram teacher, a certified mediator and trainer, and a clinical psychotherapy instructor. She has worked in corporations as a clinician, speaker, trainer, and management consultant. This corporate work included consulting with law firms, the United States Post Office, the State of California, and high-tech and other large corporations. She has trained mediation students at Stanford University (Stanford Law School and the Office of Student Affairs), Asian Americans for Community Involvement, City of San Jose, Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Santa Clara County.
She has also trained many students in the Enneagram for an array of institutions such as the County of Santa Clara Human Relations Dispute Resolution Department, the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford, and at San Quentin State Prison. Susie was an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University and later an Executive Core Faculty member and Program Chair for the Masters in Counseling Psychology program at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. She presented sessions at the International Enneagram Conference in both 2015 and 2016.
Susie has traveled extensively in the Himalayan region, where she volunteered on several projects at orphanages in Lhasa, Tibet. She has also volunteered on a film documentary about the Temple of Humankind, in the intentional spiritual community of Damanhur in northern Italy. In addition to Tibet and Italy, Susie has also donated time working with the Enneagram and those incarcerated, helping with curriculum development, teacher training, and has also directly taught the Enneagram to inmates in prison and county jails. Susie is a lover of the human story and spends her life learning to listen.
